Psalm 34:5

As most of you know, I wrote a book called, “But I LIKED It…and Other Lies.” I was searching the Word for a verse that could sum up what I’m trying to say in my book. I think I found it in Psalm 34:5, “They looked to Him and were radiant; their faces shall never blush for shame or be confused.” AMP The whole chapter can be applied to what I experienced, but I will only highlight some of my favorite verses from this grace-filled Psalm.

2,”My life makes its boast in the Lord; let the humble and afflicted hear and be glad.”

6, “The helpless call to Him, and He saves them from all their fears and troubles.” GNB

11-14, “Come, my young friends, and listen to me, and I will teach you to honor the Lord. Would you like to enjoy life? Do you want long life and happiness? Then keep from speaking evil and turn from telling (or believing) lies. Turn away from evil and do good; strive for peace with all your heart.”

18, “The Lord is near to those who are discouraged; He saves those who have lost all hope.

And finally 22, “The Lord will save His people; those who go to Him for protection will be spared.”

I hope these verses have encouraged you as much as they have me! I love God’s Word!

My book “But I LIKED It…and Other Lies” is Here!!!!

Hello! It’s been too long since my last post, but I’m back in the saddle today!
So much has happened! Where do I begin? MY BOOK CAME OUT ON LINE LAST TUESDAY THE 17th!!!!!! I’ve already signed and sold 45! If any of you would like a signed copy, email me at rocksand5@gmail.com and I will be happy to send you one. All profits will be going to my local passion, KAHTC. (Kalamazoo Anti-Human Trafficking Coalition) My book is 19.00 which includes tax and shipping. Otherwise it retails in stores for 15.85 including tax, or you can get it in e-book or kindle form for much less.
KAHTC is all about preventing human trafficking of any kind through education and changing existing laws; making new ones that will help, not punish victims, but instead punish perpetrators who traffic, buy and sell humans. Also harsher laws are trying to get passed that will deter future johns by registering them as sex offenders when they are caught with soliciting children. They also advocate for the rescuing and restoration of trafficked victims.
Those who have already read my book, tell me it made them cry and in some places laugh. Some shared with me that they couldn’t put it down until they reached the very happy ending. Others have said they had to put it down because it was too painful to read. I encouraged them to read the last chapter and Epilogue, which are full of hope and joy, then go back to where they left off. This has worked for them.
I wrote this book in obedience to God’s promptings and it’s my sincerest prayer that it helps and blesses many.
If you or someone you know suffers from any kind of mental illness or the residual effects of any type of abuse, I hope this book gets into your hands. It will shed the light of truth on many lies you may be believing, or help you understand your loved ones who may be caught in the enemies web of deception.
God bless your day,

My First Poem Ever

The 2nd Wednesday of every month I attend a Christian writer’s group. I’ve always written a chapter about a special friendship I had with a quadriplegic man. He had Locked-in Syndrome caused by a stroke. This left him a prisoner in his own body. He was unable to move except for his eyes. Looking up for yes and down for no, he was able to communicate his thoughts one letter at a time.
So far, what I’ve written and shared has been favorably received, with them always eager for more. Eventually, I will put all the chapters in chronological order and have an interesting and inspiring book. (I hope, I hope!)
Tonight I took a detour and ventured to write a poem. My first ever. It was a bit on the dark side and not what I’d call encouraging, so I won’t post it here. What was encouraging, though, was my groups response. They liked it! Even the ones who don’t go for poems said it moved them.
How about you? Is there something you’ve never done that you’d like to try? Let me encourage you to go for it! Step out of your comfort zone and see what happens.
As for me, I’m glad I Googled How To Write a Poem. It was challenging yet fun. Maybe my next one will be encouraging so I can post it for you. Yeah. I think I will.
Be sure to let me know if you were inspired to do something for the first time ever. Blessing to you,

Your Sons And Daughters Will Proclaim My Message! (Act 2:17) GNB

In Acts, versus 16, 17, 18, Paul writes, “Instead, this is what the prophet Joel spoke about: This is what I will do in the last days, God says: I will pour out My Spirit on everyone. Your sons and daughters will proclaim My message; your young men will see visions, and your old men will have dreams. Yes, even on My servants, both men and women, I will pour out My Spirit in those days and they will proclaim My message.

Some people think Paul contradicts himself because in 1 Corinthians 14:34, he writes that women should keep quiet in the churches and ask their husbands questions at home if they have any. And again in 1 Timothy 2:11, Paul writes, “Women should learn in silence and all humility. Verse 12 I do not allow them to teach or to have authority over men; they must keep quiet.” It sure looks like a contradiction. But God’s word never contradicts itself. When it seems to, we need to look into it to see who it was written to and why.

In 1 Corinthians Paul is writing to Timothy about the conditions at the church in Corinth. There was confusion and chaos in the assemblies there. People were speaking in tongues without waiting for interpretation and women who were uneducated, (only the men at that time had this privilege) were asking ignorant questions out of turn. This had to be addressed specifically in Corinth! The message in 1 Timothy 2 was also specific to the church in Ephesus. There the women were used to being in authority over the men. Many of them were ex-priestesses for the goddess Diana. They wanted to run their assemblies. That’s why we also read in Ephesians 5:22, 23 and 24, “Wives, submit yourselves to your husbands as to the Lord. For a husband has authority over his wife just as Christ has authority over the church; and Christ is Himself the Savior of the church, His body. And so wives must submit themselves completely to their husbands just as the church submits itself to Christ.”

We see that taken in its entirety, and in the proper context,
God’s word never contradicts itself!

This is such good news to me, as it also confirms that God still speaks to His people. Yes, we must always study to see that no message is contrary to the Word of God. That is why He blesses us with His Spirit and discernment. For this I am very thankful!

God clearly told me to write my story. I would have never undertaken such a task on my own! He unquestionably told me He was in me when my abuse was happening, experiencing it with me. I have many other instances where His loving Spirit prompted me to do things that otherwise would never have occurred to me to do!

That’s it for today. I’ve been encouraged by studying this. It’s my prayer that you have been by reading it, love you,

For the last couple of days I’ve been on a five day detox regimen. This involves eating lots of fruit and drinking LOTS of water. Only three days in and I’m fairly certain my intestines are clean as a whistle!

I’ve been thinking about how I could detox my spiritual life by taking a break from the TV and computer and just feed my soul with the Word of God, drinking LOTS of the water that quenches the soul’s thirst. Living Water found in Jesus Christ alone. Psalms 139:23, 24 comes to mind. “Search me oh God, and know my heart! Try me and know my thoughts! And see if there is any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting!”

This reminds me of an Indian story I’ve heard told. There are two wolves, one good and one evil, inside each of us fighting with each other. Which one will win, you wonder? The one that gets the most food.

I’ve stuffed my flesh with too much food, causing me to be overweight, and my spirit with too much world, causing it to be underweight. I think it’s time to praise and worship my Lord and Savior, “Who made Heaven and earth, the sea and all that is in them. Who keeps truth and is faithful forever” Psalm 146:6.

I can hear Jesus calling me with, “Come to Me, all you who labor and heavy laden, and I will cause you to rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn of Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.” Matt. 11:28-30. Some people have actually said the gospel I believe and enjoy is too light and easy. All I can answer is,…”Yes! Isn’t it wonderful!” (Happy sigh.)

Be blessed by the Good News,

Au Naturale…

I’m about to leave for a woman’s retreat with the ladies of our church, New Day, and some of their friends! AND I’ve decided to forgo the hairpiece I wear to hide my bald spot and the make-up I wear to hide imperfections. A scary proposition for someone who normally won’t even get her mail without said accessories! But if I can’t be myself in front of these precious friends, when can I? I feel free already! Let the wind blow and humidity descend, I care not a whit!

I was reading a devotion on my computer from Girlfriends In God. (I highly recommend it!) It’s main verse was Proverbs 31:30, “Beauty is vain, but a woman who fears the Lord, she shall be praised!” Well, I fear the Lord, and I’ll let that be my comfort this weekend as we all praise our Lord. Each and everyone of us beautiful in her own way.  The love we have for our Father will cause us to glow with a godly loveliness that age can’t quench, but rather enhance! The most beautiful woman I know is 84. God’s presence surrounds and fills her causing her to be breathtaking! Praise for our amazing, loving, and grace bestowing God, is always in her heart and on her lips. For this reason she is praised by everyone who knows her, while she deflects it all back to Him! She exemplifies the qualities I desire to be my own. Grace giving, loving, wise, non-judgmental, and always ready to go to the Throne of God on one’s behalf.

If I’m ever praised for anything, let it be for godly gifts…although a compliment on my appearance will not go unappreciated!

Til next time, God Bless you,

Good News!

In the Amplified Version of the Bible, Matthew 12:20 says, “A bruised reed He will not break, and a smoldering {dimly burning} wick He will not quench, until He brings justice and a just cause to victory.

Have you ever felt bruised and dim spiritually? I know I have! Isn’t it good to know that God sees and cares. I read in Matthew Henry’s Commentary that not only will God not break us in our bruised state, He will actually bind us up until we are stronger than even before we were hurt! AND not only does He not snuff us out in our dim condition, He will rather fan us to an ever brighter flame! You see He will make us better than we were before, when we were wounded and just about to go out!

I’ve been personally bound up by my Father’s mercy, and fanned by His grace to the point where I am now stronger than I’ve ever been and ready to let His flame burn bright within me! When I see my just cause brought to a complete victory, I’ll be more than happy to be quenched by His love forever in eternity! I know He wants to do the same for you and it’s my sincere prayer that you will let Him.

I’m encouraged when you’re encouraged by my scribblings! Please let me know if you found this to be good news.

Love my readers,

You are priceless!

How are you feeling about yourself today? Chances are that if you’re down on yourself you’re feeling like God is down on you, too. Thank goodness feelings aren`t facts!

A very good friend of mine (who just happens to also be my psychiatrist) is fond of saying,”You can feel worthless but you can’t be worthless because of the price God paid for you!”
That of course was His own Son.

How do you know what something is worth? By how much someone is willing to pay for it! You are priceless because of how much God was willing to pay for you, His only son.

This is my encouraging scribbling for today!
